This project analyzes historic issues of Vogue Magazine, sourced from their historical archives.
We focused on the section “What She Wears.” Our XML markup tracks how fashion details evolved from the 1890s to 1995. The process helped us slow down, notice small details, and understand how digital tools can bring new meaning to historical texts.
Our team includes Tara, Molly, Trinity, and Miracle.Together, we analyzed descriptions, illustrations, and fashion terminology while also building out the digital structure of the site. Each of us contributed to the markup, organization, styling, and interactive elements.
Vogue began in 1892 as a publication documenting New York society. Over time, its fashion reporting reflected major cultural shifts.
Natural fibers dominated early issues, while the mid-century introduced synthetics, new shapes, and evolving fashion language.Studying this timeline allowed us to see how fashion isn’t just clothing — it’s storytelling about identity, trends, and social change.
We aim to show how Vogue shaped and reflected beauty standards over a century of reporting. By marking up specific fashion choices, we created a clear picture of how trends developed, and how the magazine's language changed over time. This project allowed us to connect historical fashion with modern digital tools.
Hi, I'm Molly. I am in my third year of completing my Digital Media degree. I was the group leader for this project, and I completed the core details and coding work.
Hi, I’m Miracle. I’m a 3rd-year student, and for this project I focused on front-end development — making sure the website was interactive, engaging, and fun to use.
I'm Trinity Taylor, and this is my first semester in the DIGIT program. I transcribed and marked up parts of the source material and helped with the aesthetics and animated graphics.
Hi! My name is Tara, and I am a 3rd-year student at Penn State Behrend. I’m majoring in Digital Media with a minor in English. I organized our group meetings and made sure we stayed on track for each assignment. I also helped style the website and organize the summary.
